Interorganizational Information Systems Diffusion: A Social Network Perspective
نویسندگان
چکیده
The adoption process of interorganizational information systems (IOIS) has been widely studied. However, little is known of the forces actually acting against their diffusion and deployment. We suggest the adoption of some structures derived from social network studies to explore the context and environment of the diffusion process of an IOIS. We imply that the adoption of an IOIS depends not only on its nature of “innovation” but also on its diffusion processes intended as the flow of communication within a system of interdependent actors leading to a dynamic process of social influence. Using both the concept of avalanches and bifurcations as predictors of change in a nonlinear diffusion of innovation process, we explore the case of the adoption of a new HR management system after the merger of two large pharmaceutical groups providing evidence that this methodology could shed light on adoption occurrences only implied in previous studies.

Peering Below the Surface: Social Mechanisms for Analyzing Interorganizational Information Systems Integration
In an interorganizational relationships (IOR) context, interorganizational information systems (IOS) need to be integrated in order to support collaboration between partners and provide a fuller exploitation of the systems they share. Although research stresses the importance of the two phases of the IOS integration, that is the systems development and the systems diffusion, there is a paucity ...
متن کاملInterorganizational Systems and Transformation of Interorganizational Relationships: A Relational Perspective
Increasingly, organizations have been investing heavily in information systems to support greater cooperation with key business partners. However, the adoption of such interorganizational systems appears to depend not only on the firm’s perspective and internal contingencies, but also on the complementary perspective and contingencies of each of its key partners. Drawing on three IS theoretical...
متن کاملInterorganizational network structures and diffusion of information through a health system.
OBJECTIVES I used computational models to test the relationship between interorganizational network structures and diffusion of moderate- to high-priority health information throughout a system. I examined diffusion effects of mean and variance in organizational partnering tendencies, arrangement of ties among subgroups of the system, and the diffusing organization's effective network size. M...
متن کاملDimensions of Trust in the Acceptance of Inter-Organizational Information Systems in Networks: towards a Socio-Technical Perspective
In the context of collaborative networks, networked inter-organizational information systems (IOIS) play a major role by providing a shared virtual space for the informal exchange of semi-structured or unstructured knowledge. Since IT support is seen as crucial for the whole network endeavor, the perspective of system acceptance becomes important. However, discussing IS adoption at the interorg...
متن کاملConstitutive Roles Of External And Internal Information Systems For Effective Interorganizational Knowledge Transfer: A Dyadic Approach
In this paper, we attempt to investigate the constitutive roles of external and internal information systems for interorganizational knowledge transfer which is compassed by the knowledge movement from a source firm and knowledge receipt by a recipient firm. We take a dyadic approach to examine how the interorganizational systems (IOS) and the internal organizational memory information systems ...
